LSC-Kingwood Community Engagement Taskforce
IThe Community Engagement taskforce is a sub-committee of the LSC-Kingwood Diversity Committee. Its purpose is to strengthen community ties, reinforce the college’s priority of greater educational access, and inform the community of various avenues for student success.
This taskforce will focus on the Humble and Splendora community for the 2008-2009 academic year, targeting both students and parents. Several of the objectives include increasing the number of students served in the Humble area, increasing the number of students enrolled in Dual Credit and Early College, increasing the participation of parents in the educational process and implementing bridge programs.
Several initiatives are being explored to achieve these objectives such as providing college faculty to teach Dual Credit courses in the high school, establishing sister clubs at the high school, involving students and parents in the college service learning projects and establishing relationships with churches and community centers.
Though not the focus of this taskforce, the Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Diversity at LSC-Kingwood has developed a “Course Interest Survey” for residents of Splendora to determine their interest in evening courses this fall. Splendora High School will also be included in the Summer Bridge program.
